Why Huawei Mate 50 pro Series Amazed the Audience

Smartphones continue to advance at the image level more and more to the point of almost eliminating product categories such as compact cameras. The next frontier is clear: will mobile phones ever rival professional photography and film cameras?

Huawei has launched this Thursday in Spain its new mobile flagship, the Mate 50 Pro, which can be reserved in Spain for a price of 1,199 euros in its unique 8+256GB configuration. With this device, Huawei blurs the lines between professional and general photography more than ever.

I was able to try the new Huawei Mate 50 pro series briefly during its presentation event and I will tell you the 4 things that have caught my attention the most, which I will tell you will have a lot to do with photography.

1. Its camera with a mechanical aperture rivals reflexes and I thought it was super futuristic

The great novelty of Huawei Mate 50 Pro series is undoubtedly its 50-megapixel rear camera with mechanical opening, which allows 10 different levels of optical aperture, from the maximum of f/1.4 –according to the brand; it is the largest in the industry– to f /4.0.

What does this mean? That for the first time smartphones are separated from a comparative slab with respect to reflex cameras with variable lenses, since until now they could only add additional lenses or replicate with software the effect that professional cameras achieve optically.

By modifying the exposure values in professional mode, I have been able to see how one of the rear camera lenses of Huawei Mate 50 Pro series changes its aperture –you have to pay close attention, yes–, without the need for the lens to protrude towards It was like mirrored lenses and even some mirror less ones.

I have been greatly amazed at how, as with professional cameras, the Mate 50 Pro allows the photographs to come out much brighter when opening the exposure to the maximum –although they can also burn– and that with the most closed diaphragm there is less light but the depth of field is greater.

2. Huawei accustomed us to the best zooms and Mate 50 Pro is no exception with its 200 magnifications

Huawei is especially known among smartphone manufacturers for the large zoom of its mobile cameras, which for years has been among the best on the market.

Mate 50 Pro is not an exception, but it takes Huawei’s commitment to zoom even further, thanks to its 10x optical zoom and the 200x digital zoom.

The impact of inflation on the technology sector, according to 6 senior officials from giants such as Honor, Huawei, Qualcomm and Harman.

I have been able to briefly test this feature and I have been able to appreciate that the quality is perfectly preserved up to 10 magnifications and that in some cases it can even pass the 100 magnification barrier and obtain quite defined shots with less distortion than expected.

3. It is one of the few that maintains the rectangular notch: why is this surprising in the middle of 2022?

Another of the most surprising aspects of the huawei mate 50 series camera section is the mechanism where its front camera is located, since it is one of the few mobile phones on the market that maintains the rectangular notch.

And I say that I am surprised for 2 main reasons:

  • The first, that Huawei is left quite alone by keeping the rectangular notch in the high range. Even Apple, which had been the most persistent with the notch on its phones due to the importance of facial recognition, has already removed it from its iPhone 14 Pro in favor of a perforated camera on the screen.
  • The second, which is an element that had been removed in its predecessor, Mate 40 Pro, which used a dual hole-punch front camera. It’s rare for a manufacturer to go back to a 2 year old form factor that the rest of the industry is also abandoning.
