Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 Analysis

Huawei has a powerful weapon for the tablet sector. This is the Huawei MatePad Pro, a high-end device with important assets, compatibility with Huawei’s M-Pen (its own touch pen for tablets) and audio that we will delve into later.

The tribute to pay, as in all new Huawei products, is the absence of Google services. The is huawei matepad pro 12.6 price RM 800.00.

This Huawei MatePad Pro passes our analysis table, with a view to solving the question of what is the user experience offered by a high-end product so focused on multimedia but closed to Google applications.

Is it up to the first line in the sector of tablets? Let’s try to find out.

Design: good construction and lightness by flag

The Huawei MatePad Pro, in the case of our unit in blue, is finished in fiberglass. On an aesthetic level, the finish works quite well, being simple but careful.

The back has a slight sheen thanks to the material used, the camera is located in a discreet (although protruding) vertical line, and the Huawei logo is completely centered. It is a somewhat dirty material, but much less than glass and plastic.

In the upper part of it we find two speakers and the power button and two other speakers and a USB Type C in the lower part, leaving the volume buttons on the right side.

The location of the keypad is uncomfortable, since we cannot easily access the buttons either vertically or horizontally. Of course, the pressing of the buttons is exquisite despite their short travel.

The hole in the screen is a little more distracting than usual in a tablet

If we turn the tablet around we find some well-used frames, no less than 86.5% frontal occupancy of the screen, according to GSMarena. The only thing that hits the front is the perforated camera in the upper left corner. The sensor itself is very small, so it would have fit well in the device’s own frame.

Although we are used to seeing them on mobile phones, in a tablet focused almost entirely on multimedia consumption, it is shocking to see an element of this type, even more so when it is as large as the one Huawei has added.

In general terms, perhaps we need a more premium touch, at the height of the final price of the device. Fiberglass suits this MatePad well, but it falls short of some direct rivals when it comes to in-hand feel.

Despite this, the lightness of the device is appreciated, which remains at 460 grams. Although it may seem like a high number, these are good numbers for a tablet larger than 10 inches.

Screen and audio: bordering on perfection

The screen of the Huawei MatePad Pro is outstanding both in viewing angles and in sharpness and brightness. It only suffers from some typical shading in IPS technology.

The Huawei MatePad Pro has a 10.8-inch IPS LCD screen with Quad HD+ resolution. Despite the fact that the pixel density remains at 280 ppi, the sharpness is exquisite. It is a panel that is enjoyed both in brightness levels and in general experience.

The color calibration is not as accurate as it could be as the tones are quite vivid. However, we can set a ‘normal’ color mode instead of ‘vivid’ in the settings, although there are not too many differences.

The screen quality is excellent

In the same way, we can configure the white balance and activate a ‘Natural Tone’ mode so that the color temperature adjusts automatically according to the ambient light. Also note that it is a longer panel than normal thanks to its 16:10 aspect ratio.

This makes it a less tall and more elongated device than usual. Technically, 16:10 does not provide objective advantages since we can lose content shot in 16:9. It works well on an aesthetic level, but on a productivity level it is not the best option.

In short, a panel that surprises despite being IPS and whose main negative points are both its format and the shading that it leaves around the circle on the screen, something typical when we use this type of technology.
