  • Then select the room in which the light is placed and click on add to group on the screen bottom.
  • And at last click on the done button situated at the bottom of the screen.

  • Make sure that blubs are connected and turned on.
  • Open the Alexa app on your phone and then click on select devices.
  • And then click on the plus(+) icon on the top of the screen.
  • Then click on add device and the Alexa app will search for your light.
  • After that give the command to Alexa to light on the Echo device.
  • And also make sure that your device has the latest software.

  • Turn your smart Philips hue light on.
  • Then if Alexa says, “new light found,” then your device is ready to use.
  • And if Alexa did not find any device then simply say, “Alexa, find devices.” 
  • And when the Alexa finds the light simply say, “Alexa, turn on the first light.”

  • After that click on Create a room or device group and give the name.
  • Then select the light which you want in that room or device group.

What to do if you are unable to link Phillips hue to Alexa?

1. Reboot hue bridge

If your system malfunctions and have a network issue in your hue bridge. By rebooting, all the devices that are connected to the hue bridge will turn off for a short span of time. Follow the given steps to do so:

  • Turn off your hue bridge and remove all the cords.
  • Then on the hue bridge press the reboot or restart button for 5-6 seconds.
  • After that with the help of a power cord plug it in again.
  • Now, reboot your device it will hardly take 1-2 minutes.

2. Update the Alexa app

If you have an outdated version of the Alexa app then it will cause a disconnection between hue and Alexa. Go through the below steps to update your device:

  • Make sure your device is connected to the internet.
  • And now open the Alexa app or else go to the Alexa official website.
  • Then go to the settings and then the about section and click on the software version.
  • Check that the version you have matches the latest version.
  • Usually, the device automatically shows an updated version, click on that to update the latest version.

3. Reset the not working hue bulb

  • Launch the hue app and go to settings and click on the lights.
  • Under the option light, all the connected lights appear on the list, select the light that is faulty to reset.
  • After clicking on the light, you will see the delete button, click on it and delete the light.
  • After that go to the home page of the hue app and on the right corner click on three dots.
  • After that, you will see the option of re-add and it will show all the inactive lights. Click on the light to add to the active list.
  • Connect again with the Alexa and if it still does not work then change the bulb.

4. Factory reset hue bridge

  • Make sure that power lights are on and keep the hue bridge on.
  • From the hue, the bridge disconnects the ethernet cable.
  • You will see a small button label with “restore factory setting” on the backside.
  • Then press it for 5-6 seconds and then release it.
  • When restoration gets complete, go to the hue app and again set up the hue bridge.
  • Once you complete all the steps then Alexa and Philips hue will be connected.
